Hello there! A bit about me and the reason behind my website…first of all, I love food. I love food so much that I decided to study nutrition and dedicate my entire life to food. After getting my Bachelor’s of Science in Dietetics from the University of Cincinnati (UC), I decided to further my education and was accepted into UC’s dietetic internship program.
My journey to become a registered dietitian was achieved with the completion of 1200 supervised practice hours, passing the Registered Dietitian Exam, registering with Commission of Dietetic Registration, and lastly getting licensed through the State Medical Board of Ohio. I now work in an interdisciplinary clinical setting in which I work directly with physicians and provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to patients for a variety of chronic diseases. I have gained experience in MNT for but not limited to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and obesity. With that said, there is a lot more to me and a healthy lifestyle than just food. In my website, you will find evidence-based insights of all things encompassing a healthy lifestyle and community. We are what we eat…and so much more.
More about my background, I grew up as a chubby child which may make sense due to my love of food (re-read above paragraph if that isn’t evident to you by now). Being an overweight adolescent comes with a plethora of psychological issues dealing with peers and societal standards. As a young teen at the age of 15 I decided to commit to anything to lose weight. I adopted an all vegan diet and in the process developed some severe disordered eating habits. Sure, I lost weight and quite a bit of it quickly. Restrictive eating patterns set in and I had lost 50 pounds in less than a year; that was 31% of my body weight which is significant weight loss per nutrition assessment standards. As I began my journey in the field of nutrition and dietetics I tweaked my diet to what fits best for me…a more inclusive diet with the sustained joy of eating. Discovering the proper diet for myself revealed my lifelong goal of helping others find theirs.
